F1 in Schools
The F1 in Schools competition is a design based technology competition where students will get the opportunity to design their own 'F1 type' car which will be raced against other teams and schools. The car is powered by a gas cylinder and travels along a pre-made race track. Teams will submit a portfolio of their plans to the competition organisors and if successful in their application they will then represent their schools in an event day with other schools from their region.
A key concept of the competition is that teams will be asked to present a short 4/5 minute presentation to the judges on the day of the regional event and will also be required to seek sponsorship for their team in the lead up to the competition. Overall winners on the regional days will go onto national finals and the final winners will go to world finals

Sumo Robotics
Sumo robotics is a relatively new competition on offer. Students will be split into teams and will have to design the best 'sumo' that they can. Their sumo will then wrestle against others to push one another out of the sumo ring. The robot works with a motor and sensors which the students will wire up and program themselves using scratch coding system.
Call to Code
Call to code is an initiative established by google in recent years. There will be online coding tests and tasks for students to complete and the best achievers across the country will get to visit google head quarters in Dublin. Call to Code is ran in conjunction with TechWeek which will by overseen by the technical graphics teachers in spring. During this week, students will complete different classroom based tasks in the areas of coding, programming and design.
